Lauren Sprouse is a PhD student in Environmental Sciences & Engineering researching pathogen flows from failing sanitation infrastructure in sub-Saharan Africa. She integrates GIS, environmental microbiology, and risk assessment methods to understand pathogen hazard-exposure-disease risk pathways following sewer overflows in Lusaka, Zambia, and Kampala, Uganda. She previously worked as an NIEHS-contracted science writer and is passionate about communicating science to a wide range of audiences. Lauren earned her Master of Public Health and Bachelor of Science & Public Health degrees in Environmental Health from UNC Gillings.
