Andrei Badilla Aguilar is an environmental microbiologist interested in applying engineering approaches to understand the dynamics of human pathogens in water systems and their impact on public health. Andrei got his PhD in Environmental Engineering from the University of Notre Dame, where he worked on the transport and fate of antimicrobial resistance determinants in freshwater streams. Before entering the academic world, Andrei worked as a water scientist in his native Costa Rica, where he developed novel workflows to investigate waterborne outbreaks and championed the first wastewater surveillance system in the country. Andrei is also passionate about environmental justice and public education on water conservation.
