Environmental health services in healthcare facilities: Evidence map

This evidence map compiles 4,381 scientific studies on environmental health services in healthcare facilities in low- and middle-income country settings. It serves as a resource for researchers and practitioners by characterizing the landscape of evidence on environmental health services and highlighting gaps in the literature.

The evidence map database was generated through a systematic literature search, screening, and tagging process. Literature searches took place in June 2023 and January 2025. Environmental health services were defined as water, sanitation, hygiene, waste management, environmental cleaning, and laundry. All types of healthcare facilities in all low- and middle-income income countries were eligible for inclusion, with country income levels defined using 2023 World Bank classifications.

Let's create a water secure future together.
